Tour Description

This accessible Warnemunde provides a wonderful overview of two of beautiful German cities. Experience the highlights of Warnemunde including the famous Light Tower and picturesque sea side views, and explore the popular town of Rostock with its glorious St. Mary’s Church, New Market and Kropelin Street.

Start your tour by meeting your tour guide and accessible van at the Warnemunde cruise dock. From here, you will head out on a short drive to the heart of Warnemunde for a panoramic tour through the heart of the city. Escorted by your tour guide, you will admire beautiful, traditional architecture and highlights. While in Warnemunde, will make a stop to get out and see the 1898 Light House, located on one of the main squares in Warnemunde, Teepott square, named teapot for its unique shape. The area is peppered with small shops and cafes, and offers wonderful photo opportunities of the water.

Next, your tour continues with a short drive to the nearby town of Rostock. Here, you will experience one of the most popular highlgihts of the city, the glorious St. Mary’s Church. This incredible church dates back to 1230 and offers a breathtaking interior with amazing woodwork including ornate doors, organ and pulpit. While inside the church, you will have a unique opportunity to see the 400+ year old astronomical clock that is still working.The church also has a painting depicting Rostock following a WW2 bombing raid.

Following this, you will spend some time exploring the nearby New Market (Neuer Markt) which is the very center of the city. This big square is surrounded by beautiful Hanseatic architecture and the fascinating (pink) city hall and post office. Your tour guide will narrate you through the history of the many unique buildings and sculptures here and on most days, you will also be able to see local vendor stands selling fresh produce such as fruits, vegetables, fish eggs and many other things. This area opens up to Rostock’s main shopping street, Kropelin Street. Enjoy a leisurely stroll down this pedestrianized area, as your tour guide points out several highlights and interesting facts about the city. Among other things, you will see the beautiful Universitatsplatz in front of the university building, where you will admire the unique fountain with figures, birds and animals – some of them quite amusing. You will also see the Old Kropelin Tower, which was a part of Rostock’s western city gate. It was first built in 1260 and stands a a symbol of the town’s age and history.
